DESCRIPTION:Location\nBurley High School Little Theater \nProduction Description\nCasting all roles for “Steel Magnolias.” Production states: “Set in a small town in Louisiana ‐‐ in the time of really big hair ‐‐ six women gather in Truvy’s beauty shop for gossip\, friendship\, and support. These women are true ‘steel magnolias’: southern belles who are flowery on the outside\, but tough as steel on the inside. The play is alternately hilarious and touching as it moves from the excitement of Shelby’s wedding to sadness\, as friends mourn her loss. The dialogue is sharp and funny\, and all six roles are interesting and challenging. ‘The funniest show to make you cry.'” \n\nCome prepared for a cold read and sides will be provided. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nActors & Performers\n\n\n\n\nTruvy Jones: Lead\, Female\, 35-55\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBeauty shop owner; she is vivacious\, witty\, warm\, and generous; she’s the family breadwinner and takes great pride in her business; dispenses advice with lots of hairspray; she is a gossiper and loves to be in everyone’s personal affairs.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAnnelle DuPup DeSoto: Lead\, Female\, 18-30\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTruvy’s assistant; naïve\, sweet\, confused and strong enough to keep going no matter what life throws at her; Annelle moves from unsure to wild to wildly religious over the course of the play.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClairee Belcher: Lead\, Female\, 45-70\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA widow of the former mayor; grand dame\, elegant\, sophisticated\, self-assured\, and a true beauty; she has a smart mouth and sweet tooth; wicked sense of humor.
